What Is Baseline Concussion Testing?
This is a specific type of testing that involves cognitive, physical and balance tests. It is typically done pre and post injury as an assessment to measure an individual's brain function before and after a concussion occurs. This gives us a “baseline” of how your brain works so if you sustain a head injury we can track your brain function!
Who Is Baseline Concussion Testing For?
This type of testing is typically used for athletes, especially those in contact sports such as football, hockey or soccer. It can also be used for anyone who is at a higher risk of concussion or head injury. Baseline Concussion Testing is often used in schools, sports clubs or professional leagues.
It can also be beneficial for those at higher risk of head injury, such as first responders, firefighters, law enforcement or military workers. By completing these tests, it gives health care practitioners insight to any subtle changes that may not be noticeable to the individual themselves.
This specialized concussion test is also helpful for those with a history of concussions to be able to track new injuries or changes.

Even though concussions are called mild brain injury, it is important to remember that they are still brain injuries! This is why these injuries should be taken seriously, and proper rest and care need to be taken, especially before returning to regular activities. This type of testing is also part of a series of evaluations and may be used in conjunction with others to formally diagnose a concussion.
