Kinesiology

Kinesiology, also known as human kinetics, is the study of human movement. Kinesiology combines several fields of study, including physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, and psychology. Kinesiologists can help individuals in a wide area of practice, including injury rehabilitation, ergonomics, and improving health and fitness.

Kinesiologists can work in various settings such as physiotherapy clinics, hospitals, long-term care homes, and fitness facilities. Kinesiologists can aid in the treatment of patients in physiotherapy settings through the prescription of exercise programs. Kinesiologists use individualized exercise programs to help patients recover from injuries and reach their personal health and fitness goals.

Kinesiology became a regulated health profession in Ontario in 2013. To become a registered kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario, an individual must complete a four-year undergraduate degree and pass the College’s entrance exam.
